Starting keto is simple, but a few recurring mistakes make people give up too soon. Here are the five most common ones โ€” and how to avoid them.

1. Neglecting electrolytes

This is mistake number one. When you cut carbs you lose minerals, and the "keto flu" sets in: fatigue, headaches, cramps. The fix: more salt, and supplement potassium and magnesium (even with an electrolyte supplement).

2. Too much protein, too little fat

Keto is not a "high-protein" diet: fats are the fuel. Too much protein and too little fat make it hard to get into ketosis. Work out the right proportions with the macro calculator.

3. Underestimating hidden carbs

Sauces, fruit, "light" products, even some vegetables: carbs hide everywhere. Check how much a food contains with the carb calculator.

4. Not drinking enough

In ketosis the body retains less water: you need to drink more (along with the salts, see point 1).

5. Expecting immediate results

The first few days are about adaptation. Stable energy and results come after the first week: give your body time.
